40th Annual Daytime Emmy Award Nominations

The nominations for the 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced live on ABC's morning show Good Morning America.  The # 1 Daytime Soap for the last 26 years, CBS's The Young and the Restless, leads all shows with 23 nominations.  Not too far behind is defending champ, ABC's General Hospital with 19.  NBC's Days of Our Lives and CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful struck record nomination highs with 17 and 15 nominations, respectively, while former ABC soap, One Life to Live, which was resurrected from the dead on Hulu Plus on Monday, only has a paltry three nominations (remember, only one actor submitted).

67th Annual Tony Award Nomination Recap

The 67th Annual Tony Award nominations were announced this morning from New York City, and it is a neck and neck race in the Musical races.  The musical Kinky Boots leads all shows with 13 nominations, and  the British import Matilda trails with 12 nominations.  In the last week, Matilda has gotten some controversial news with the disqualification of the four actresses who alternate in the title role from the Actress in a Musical category.  Joining the two musicals in the Best Musical category are A Christmas Story: The Musical (based off the Jean Shepherd story and 1983 holiday classic movie) and Bring It On: The Musical, both of which have closed.  Motown: The Musical was snubbed in the Best Musical category.  There were only five Musical revivals eligible, and four of them got in, and two of them were Best Musical winners, and one a television special: Pippin (nominated for Revival 40 years after the original production debuted on Broadway), Annie (the only nomination for the 1977 musical), The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (which originated as a live television special in 1957).

In the Play race, the late Hollywood screenwriter Nora Ephron is nominated for her play "Lucky Guy", which also garnered a nod for star Tom Hanks.  The other Best Play nominees are The Assembled Parties (by Richard Greenberg), The Testament of Mary (by Colm Toibin), and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (by Christopher Durang).  In the Play Revival category, the all-black revival of "The Trip to Bountiful" is nominated with "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf", "Golden Boy", and "Orphans" in the revival category.

2013 Daytime Emmy Acting Entrants & Pre-Nominees

It is official.  One Life to Live will finish out its eligibility frame at the Daytime Emmys without an acting nomination.  Only Kassie DePaiva submitted for the late ABC soap, which will be making it's online-only relaunch this spring.  DePaiva submitted in both Lead (for OLTL) and Supporting (for General Hospital), but  failed to break through in either race.  General Hospital, which celebrates it's 50th Anniversary on April 1, has 50 percent of the Supporting Actress pre-nominees, one year after garnering four of the five Supporting Actor nominations.  I'm going to post who was submitted in each category, followed by the Top 10 Pre-Nominees.

LIVE Blogging of the 85th Annual Academy Awards

In about one half an hour from now, the 85^th Annual Academy Awards will air live on ABC, hosted by comedian and animator (among things) Seth McFarlane.  The stars are out tonight for Hollywood’s Biggest Night of the year.  The Steven Spielberg film “Lincoln” leads with 12 nominations, including Best Picture.  However, the film that has dominated the major accolades has been “Argo”, with seven nominations.  There are a lot of headlines that could be made tonight, such as the most wins for Best Actor by one individual, the oldest winner for Best Actress, and the youngest winner for Best Actress (and when the nominees were announced, we saw the first time an acting category was filled with past winners – Best Supporting Actor).  Sit back, stay tuned, and grab some snacks, because it will be a long and exciting ride.

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards Live Real-Time Blogging

In about five minutes, the 55^th Annual Grammy Awards will air LIVE from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS, hosted by LL Cool J.  Last year, the Grammy Telecast had a dark cloud over it, as the ceremony took place about 24 hours after the death of Grammy-winning singer Whitney Houston.

There will be a lot of performers singing tonight, from Taylor Swift to Elton John to Dave Grohl to Fun..

Also for this year’s ceremony, CBS lowered the boom on Grammy guests with a STRICT dress code that bans clothing that reveals the breast and buttock areas.

10:49PM- "I don't know if they're going to cut me off, but it's the biggest night of my career."- Howard Gordon, accepting the Emmy for Homeland in Outstanding Drama Series (the 2012 Bryan Award winner for Outstanding New Series); Homeland is the VERY FIRST Drama Series winner for Showtime
