Emmy & Bryan Award Category Updates

Primetime Emmy Award Updates: - Variety, Music, or Comedy Series, Reality-Competition Program, and Reality Program, will now join the TV Movie/Miniseries, Drama Series, Comedy Series, and ALL Acting categories by having six nominees; All other categories (including Series Writing and Directing) will have five - Showtime sent out its screeners last month; No big surprises (Drama Entrants- The Borgias, Shameless, and Dexter; Comedy Entrants- Californication, The Big C, Episodes, Weeds, Nurse Jackie, and the United States of Tara; Reality Entrants- Penn and Teller and The Real L Word) Bryan Award Updates: - Oprah will now join the eligible candidates for the Most Missed Series race, as Oprah's farewell will air on May 25; Expect a daytime showdown between Oprah Winfrey and the late As the World Turns, which went off the air almost seven months ago; Last year's Most Missed Series race pitted the longest running show in broadcast history (Guiding Light) versus the longest-running crime drama, and co-longest running primetime drama in television history (Law & Order). Both won, and beat the longest-running action drama in television history (24), and ABC's suspense thriller Lost. - The Younger Acting races for Primetime will be split into Younger Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series and Younger Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, easing the competition this year. The category split will be re-evaluated on a yearly basis.
