The 68th Annual Golden Globes: LIVE Blogging

In about 30 minutes, the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air LIVE on NBC, once again hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais. This awards ceremony, run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, honors achievements in both film and television. Once again, A Man and His Awards will be blogging while watching what Hollywood calls the "Party of the Year".

EDIT: 8PM- The Show has begun LIVE from the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom (and it's the 69th, NOT the 68th)

8:01PM- "You get Britain's biggest comedian hosting the second biggest awards show on America's third biggest network"- Ricky Gervais

8:01PM- "Who needs the Oscars? Not me, not Eddie Murphy."

8:04PM- "A marriage that lasted 72 days. I've been through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches."- Ricky Gervais

8:07PM- Johnny Depp presents the first Best Drama Picture nominee of the night, "Hugo".

8:08PM- Gerard Butler and Mila Kunis present the first award of the night, Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.

8:09PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Christopher Plummer for his role as an elderly man exploring his sexuality in the film Beginners. A standing ovation for the veteran of stage and screen.

8:10PM- "Welcome back to the home of King Kong, Rin Tin Tin, and all our youthful fantasies."- Christopher Plummer

8:13PM- Ashton Kutcher and Elle MacPherson present the role for Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical TV Series.

8:14PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Laura Dern for the HBO comedy (which I use the term loosely) Enlightened. Dern is a former Miss Golden Globe, and also won for her role as Katherine Harris in the movie Recount, of which she was robbed on an Emmy.

8:16PM- Commercial Break

8:20PM- Julianne Moore and Rob Lowe present Miss Golden Globe (teleprompter error).

8:20PM- "When was the last time you did a cold reading in front of Steven Spielberg?"- Rob Lowe

8:20PM- Moore and Lowe present Best Miniseries or TV Movie.

8:21PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Downton Abbey (which also won the Emmy)

8:22PM- "The whole Downton adventure has been an exciting one, like an exciting child who just won the Olympics."- Julian Fellowes; "It's the audience that makes a success."

8:23PM- Lowe and Moore also present Lead Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie.

8:24PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Kate Elizabeth Winslet for her role as Mildred Pierce (which won her the Emmy). She was a double-winner three years ago on the Golden Globe stage.

8:27PM- Frieda Pinto presents the first nominee for Best Musical or Comedy Film- Midnight in Paris.

8:28PM- Commercial Break

8:32PM- A Message from the Head of the HPFA and Jeremy Irons

8:33PM- Jake Gyllenhall presents the second nominee for Best Musical or Comedy Film- My Week with Marilyn.

8:34PM- "You don't have to thank everyone you met. [...] You just have to thank the main two- your agent and God."- Ricky Gervais

8:35PM- Melissa McCarthy and Paula Patton present the Golden Globe for Lead Actor in a TV Series- Drama.

8:36PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Kelsey Grammer for Boss.

8:37PM- McCarthy and Patton are also presenting TV Series- Drama.

8:38PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Homeland, Showtime's new thrilling drama.

8:44PM- Jimmy Fallon and Adam Levine are going to present the Golden Globes for Original Score and Song for a Motion Picture.

8:45PM- First is Score.

8:46PM- The Golden Globe goes to...the Score from The Artist, composed by Ludovic Bource.

8:48PM- Then Song.

8:50PM- The Golden Globe goes to...the Song "Masterpiece" from W.E., co-written by Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Entertainment Madonna.

8:56PM- Katharine McPhee and Debra Messing present the Golden Globe for Lead Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries.

8:57PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Idris Elba for Luther.

8:59PM- Brad Pitt presents the second Drama Motion Picture nominee, The Ides of March.

9PM- Kate Beckinsale and Seth Rogen present the Golden Globe for Actress in a Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical.

9:01PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Michelle Williams for My Week with Marilyn.

9:07PM- Sarah Michelle Gellar and Piper Perabo present the Golden Globe for Supporting Actor in a Television Program.

9:14PM- The Golden Globe goes to...The Adventures of Tintin.

9:20PM- Ewan McGregor presents the third nominee for Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical, 50/50.

9:21PM- Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman present the Golden Globe for Screenplay.

9:22PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris. (Woody Allen is not here; "Come and get it, Woody"- Nicole Kidman)

9:23PM- Husband-and-wife William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman sing and present the Golden Globe for Supporting Actress in Television.

9:24PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Jessica Lange for American Horror Story.

9:31PM- Madonna presents the Golden Globe for Foreign Language Film.

9:42PM- Emily Blunt presents Bridesmaids, the fourth Musical or Comedy Motion Picture nominee.

9:43PM- Tina Fey and Jane Lynch present the Golden Globe for Lead Actor in a TV Series- Musical or Comedy.

9:44PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Matt LeBlanc for Episodes.

9:46PM- Bradley Cooper presents the Golden Globe for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

9:47PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Octavia Spencer for The Help.

9:49PM- Commercial Break, then the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award to Morgan Freeman

9:54PM- Not quite, Reese Witherspoon presents the fourth nominee for Motion Picture- Drama, The Descendants.

9:55PM- Sidney Poitier comes onto the stage (and receives a standing ovation) to introduce Morgan Freeman.

9:58PM- Helen Mirren joins Sidney Poitier onto the stage

10:03PM- After a clip show of highlights from Freeman's illustrious career, a standing ovation as Morgan Freeman takes to the stage to accept the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.

10:16PM- Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas present the Golden Globe for TV Series- Comedy or Musical.

10:31PM- Queen Latifah presents the sixth and final nominee for Motion Picture- Drama, The Help.

10:34PM- Colin Firth presents the Golden Globe for Lead Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama.

10:35PM- The Golden Globe goes to...Meryl Streep as The Iron Lady.

10:36PM- "When Ricky Gervais' deal fell through, and they came to me to play Margaret Thatcher..."- Meryl Streep

10:47PM- Natalie Portman presents the Golden Globe for Lead Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama.

10:48PM- The Golden Globe goes to...George Clooney for The Descendants.

10:49PM- One final Commercial Break, and then the Award for Motion Picture- Drama.

10:54PM- Harrison Ford presents the final award of the evening, Motion Picture-Drama.

10:55PM- The Golden Globe for Motion Picture- Drama goes to...The Descendants.

10:58PM- And that's all she wrote on the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Next Monday, the Golden Raspberry Award nominations, and the day after that, the nominees for the 84th Annual Academy Award nominees will be announced.
